Stantec Selected to Lead Development of Downtown Area Master Plan for the City of Pleasanton

PLEASANTON, TX — The City of Pleasanton, Texas has selected global design firm Stantec to lead the development of its new Downtown Area Master Plan. Pleasanton, a community of nearly 10,000 people, is located 30 miles south of San Antonio along U.S. Highway 281 in Atascosa County. The plan will ensure future enhancements, both public and private, align with the community and stakeholders’ vision for the downtown area, defined as North Main Street from East Goodwin Street to Haverlah Road.

For this project, Stantec will identify best practices to make Downtown Pleasanton a more livable, walkable, and thriving town center. This will include outlining priorities and opportunities to encourage development, improve underutilized spaces, and activate civic assets to their best uses, while working to drive opportunities to maximize public and private investments. The firm’s plan will also include details for integrating and synchronizing the aesthetics and amenities of public and private spaces throughout downtown.

“Creating a sense of place and identity is a vital part of a successful downtown masterplan,” said Mark Maldonado, Principal and Texas Landscape Architecture Lead at Stantec. “We’re excited to work with the city to design a plan that uniquely positions Pleasanton as a destination community that stands out within the region.”

Following a site analysis and inventory, Stantec will conduct community engagement efforts, sharing its findings, soliciting the public’s input on the vision and goals for the study area, and discussing catalyst-site opportunities and programing elements. The Downtown Area Master Plan is anticipated to take 10 weeks to complete, at which time Stantec will present their findings to the city for acceptance and approval.

Stantec has delivered successful master plan projects to more than 100 Texas communities. The firm is known for creating community plans that do not just sit on the shelf, they weave the history, values, and hopes of communities into innovative and sustainable growth opportunities. Stantec recently completed a Downtown Revitalization Plan for the City of Mineral Wells, Texas, helping the area reach its full economic potential and the community reclaim their downtown as a cultural hub.
