TexITE Names LAN’s Mathis as 2021 Transportation Engineer of the Year
A civil engineer with 36 years of experience, Mathis is a Senior Project Manager for Traffic Engineering at Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam, Inc. (LAN). Since joining LAN in 2018, Mathis has grown the firm’s traffic engineering practice significantly and positioned the firm for several major rail and transit projects.
Some of the projects that Mathis has managed include various traffic signal design and plans, specifications, and estimates for the cities of Fort Worth, Dallas, Frisco, Plano, and Allen, master transportation plan update for the City of Copperas Cove, railroad crossing safety inspection and preemption design for the City of Leander, two TEXRail transit-oriented development stations, as well as a quiet zone implementation for the City of Colleyville.
In 2011, Mathis served as the Local Arrangement Chairman for the TexITE Spring Conference. In addition, he has served the Greater Fort Worth Section of ITE as Secretary/Treasurer, Vice President, and President. Since he completed his term as President, Mathis has continued to serve the Greater Fort Worth Section as Section Representative on the TexITE Board and currently serves as the Section Administrator.
Mathis holds a bachelor’s degree in technical writing from the University of North Texas, and a master’s degree in civil engineering - transportation from the University of Texas at Arlington. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in Texas.
