HOUSTON, TX — EYP announces that its Houston office is the recipient of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Houston 2022 Firm Award.

AIA Houston annually recognizes an architectural firm that produced distinguished architecture for at least 10 years. The Firm Award — which also factors in significant contributions and accomplishments within the profession and community — is especially meaningful since EYP celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

“For the Firm Award, the Jury was impressed by the breadth of involvement EYP had in the Houston community,” noted the jury committee. “From employee participation in numerous organizations including AIA and NOMA, as well as their Tradewell Fellowship, the firm demonstrated an ongoing commitment to help further mentorship, leadership, and EDI goals, both internally to the firm and externally to Houston as a whole. Their work, especially in health care, demonstrated a high level of achievement in design. EYP’s work and service exemplify how a firm should continuously lead by example.”

“The AIA Houston Firm Award is a celebration of our people, our clients, and the significant impact we’ve had in the design of the built environment within the city-limits and beyond,” said Tushar Gupta, FAIA, Managing Principal at EYP’s Houston office. “We’re proud of our diverse culture, and we’re honored that our fountainhead legacy of nurturing generations of leaders has contributed positively to the architectural profession and the Houston community.”

EYP Houston currently employs 87 people and notable contributions include the George R. Brown Convention Center and Avenida de los Americas plaza modernization, more than 13 million square feet in the Texas Medical Center, which includes the recently completed Walter Tower for Houston Methodist, Sarofim Pavilion for Memorial Hermann, and Texas A&M University’s Intercollegiate School of Engineering Medicine.

“My favorite part about working in the Houston office is the culture, which is celebrated through the diversity of each staff member,” said Yuliana Hernandez, Associate AIA.

“This award is a testament to the strong office leadership, talented colleagues, and mentors providing ample opportunities for professional growth,” said Associate Principal Renee Fiala, AIA, EDAC.

Other notable EYP Houston projects include the City of Houston’s Alief Neighborhood Center, the University of Houston’s The Quad, the Center for Science and Health Professions at University of St. Thomas, Sam Houston State University’s Lowman Student Center, the University of Texas Medical Branch’s Health Education Center, and MD Anderson’s The Woodlands Cancer Center.

“Receiving the Firm Award is an honor and testament to the meaningful work we do as individuals, as a team, and as a firm,” said Peter Dreghorn, Operations Leader of EYP Houston, Project Director. “What defines us at EYP is making a difference through design — to connect and have impact by asking ourselves, 'What’s possible?'"
