McCarthy Awarded Multiple Denton Civil Projects

DENTON, TX — McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. has been awarded three road construction projects with the City of Denton. The projects — Mayhill Road, Neighborhood 7A Street Reconstruction, and Southeast Denton Package B Street Reconstruction — involve extending existing roads, street reconstruction, and water and wastewater improvements.

“Along with the whole of North Texas, the City of Denton is experiencing population growth which creates the need of additional infrastructure as well as investment in legacy roadways,” said Jeromy Shaw, Senior Vice President of Operations for McCarthy. “McCarthy is pleased to partner with Denton to build roadways that will serve the population for years to come.”

McCarthy is realigning Mayhill Road from approximately Quail Creek Road south to Colorado Boulevard, which will improve congestion at the existing intersection. The new four-lane divided roadway will include a four-lane bridge crossing over a Denton County Transit Authority rail line, a new traffic signal at the intersection of Mayhill Road and Colorado Boulevard, a regional flood control structure, and a sidewalk and shared use path for pedestrians and bicyclists. McCarthy will self-perform earthwork, underground storm sewer, bridge work, and retaining walls. The $19.5 million project is expected to start in Q1 2023 and be completed by Q4 2024.

The Neighborhood 7A Street Reconstruction project consists of water and wastewater improvements along with reconstruction of multiple street sections. McCarthy will self-perform earthwork and aggregate base, as well as miscellaneous concrete such as sidewalks, driveways, curbs, and gutter. The $7.3 million project is expected to start Q1 2023 and be completed by Q1 2024.

Southeast Denton Package B Street Reconstruction is the city’s first construction manager at risk (CMAR) project, consisting of water and wastewater improvements and street reconstruction of 51 street segments. McCarthy is self-performing earthwork and aggregate base as well as miscellaneous concrete such as sidewalks, driveways, and curb and gutter. The $21 million project began in February 2023 and is scheduled to be completed by Q3 2024.
