LOCKHART, TX — VLK Architects and Core Construction gathered with Lockhart Independent School District board members, principals, teachers, and the bond construction manager for a beam signing at Lockhart High School (LHS). In November 2022, the Lockhart community voted in support of a bond election providing the funds for expanding LHS to accommodate rapid growth in the area. The beam signing celebrates construction progress on the district’s promise to the community.

“As Lockhart continues to grow, so too does our responsibility to provide spaces that support the whole child,” said Mark Estrada, Superintendent of Lockhart ISD. “These new additions at Lockhart High School are designed to meet the evolving needs of our students, ensuring they are equipped to succeed both in school and in life.”

The Lockhart High School additions and renovations include greatly needed additions to three main areas: classrooms, fine arts, and the cafeteria. The two-story, 36,000-square-foot classroom expansion will add 19 general classrooms, six science classrooms, and three labs to the existing academic wing, providing flexible learning spaces that can adapt to future needs at LHS. A 2,200-square-foot fine arts addition provides additional rehearsal space and offices to accommodate the school’s mariachi program. The existing cafeteria gains an additional 4,000 square feet, as well as interior renovations to accommodate more seating for students.

“[The] beam signing is a testament to Lockhart ISD’s dedication to its students and the future of education in this growing community,” said Rory Estes, Principal at VLK Architects. “VLK Architects is proud to be part of a project that will provide state-of-the-art facilities to support learning and development for years to come.”

This project will result in enough space for an additional 625 students at Lockhart High School. The district plans to open the additions for students and staff later this school year.
