Skanska Breaks Ground on New Career and Technical Education Facility at Collin College’s Wylie Campus

WYLIE, TX — Skanska USA Building announces the start of construction on a new 66,309-square-foot Career and Technical Education (CTE) facility at Collin College’s Wylie Campus, further expanding the college’s capacity to serve students and meet the growing workforce needs of Collin County.

Located on more than seven acres, the new building will provide hands‑on training spaces for programs including welding, HVAC, veterinary technology, and additional disciplines to be announced. The facility is designed to support the region’s rapidly expanding population and the growing demand for career‑ready graduates with technical skills.

The two‑story facility will feature specialized lab environments, general classrooms, faculty offices, a dedicated welding shop, an unconditioned fabrication materials yard, and shell space to accommodate future instructional programs.

The Wylie Campus, which opened in 2020, has experienced consistent enrollment growth as Collin County remains one of the fastest-growing areas in North Texas. This new facility represents the next phase of the campus’s development.

Skanska has played a major role in shaping Collin College’s growth across the region, contributing to projects on Texas campuses in McKinney, Plano, and Frisco, and serving as the primary general contractor for the original Wylie campus, completed in 2017. That project included six buildings totaling 340,000 square feet, designed to serve 7,500 students on a 96‑acre site. Page served as the architect for the original campus and continues in that role for the new expansion.

The Wylie Campus expansion builds on this foundation and reflects Skanska’s long-standing partnership with Collin College, along with creating an educational environment that strengthens the local community and prepares students for in‑demand careers.

“We are proud to support Collin College as it expands access to hands‑on technical training for students across Wylie and the surrounding communities,” said Dennis Yung, Executive Vice President and General Manager at Skanska USA Building. “This new facility strengthens a partnership that has already helped shape several Collin College campuses, and it will create opportunities for the next generation of skilled workers who are essential to the region’s continued growth.”

Construction is now underway, with additional project milestones to be announced as work progresses.
