Over 150 Contractors Gather for AGC Maine's Safety Awards

FREEPORT, ME — The Associated General Contractors of Maine (AGC Maine) hosted its annual Safety Awards at the Hilton Garden Inn in Freeport, Maine, bringing together more than 150 contractors, industry professionals, and safety leaders to celebrate the construction industry’s commitment to safety.

The event recognized Maine contractors who earned National AGC Safety Awards (NASA) for maintaining exemplary safety records. Established in 1991, the NASA program allows AGC members nationwide to benchmark their safety performance and honors firms with industry-leading safety results based on company size and construction type.

AGC Maine was also honored, receiving a National AGC Chapter Safety Award from AGC of America in the 126 to 250 general contractor members category. The Chapter Safety Award recognizes AGC Chapters with strong member participation and outstanding collective safety performance.

This year’s Safety Awards program featured keynote speaker Kevin Cannon, CSP, ARM, Senior Director of Safety, Health, and Risk Management at the Associated General Contractors of America. With 27 years of experience in safety and health, including 19 years in construction, Cannon provided attendees with a comprehensive overview of regulatory/deregulatory activity and ongoing initiatives impacting the industry.

During his 16-year tenure at AGC of America, Cannon has served as the organization’s primary liaison on federal safety and health regulations, offering expert guidance on regulatory issues affecting the construction industry. His portfolio has recently expanded to include oversight of broader risk management challenges such as liability, insurance, and enterprise-level risk exposure. Cannon has also served on the Advisory Committee on Construction Safety and Health from 2011 to 2025 and received the Distinguished Service to Safety Award — the National Safety Council’s highest honor — in 2025.
