ACEC/MA Names Wala of Nitsch Engineering a Young Professional Award Winner
Wala is a Land Development Engineer, working with architects and developers to resolve their permitting, design and construction challenges. For the Fowler Clark Epstein Farm project in Mattapan, which restored a historic farm to an urban farming education and training center, Wala designed bioretention basins to treat rainwater through filtration and nutrient uptake by plants, to promote groundwater infiltration, and even grow edible blueberries.
She later wrote an article “Rainwater and the Fowler Clark Farm,” which was published by BSCES News and Historic Boston Incorporated. Wala chaired the Boston Society of Civil Engineers Younger Member Group and serves on the Charles River Watershed Association board. She is a regular volunteer with the Greater Boston Food Bank and Future City, advising students at Harvard College.
The 2019 Engineering Excellence Awards were announced at the recent ACEC/MA Engineering Excellence and Awards Gala with special guest emcees Jonathan L. Gulliver, Highway Administrator at the Massachusetts Department of Transportation and Frederick A. Laskey, Executive Director of MWRA.
“We are pleased to recognize the next generation of engineering professionals,” said Michael J. Walsh, PE, President of ACEC/MA and Vice President of CDM Smith. “We congratulate Jessica on her outstanding achievements.”
