AGC MA Achieves Nation's Highest Level of Worker Safety

WELLESLEY, MA — Twenty-three Massachusetts-based construction firms reported zero workforce job site injuries in 2024, a statistic that makes the region the safest in the nation for construction job site workers. At a recent celebratory brunch reception at the Westin Copley Place in Boston, Massachusetts, leadership from each of the 23 firms received Associated General Contractors (AGC) National Safety Awards. An additional five companies received Safety Merit Awards, acknowledging firms reporting fewer than half the national average number of onsite injuries in the last year.

“It’s not a surprise that AGC MA member firms have earned some of the best safety records in the nation. Worker safety is an unwavering commitment for our membership, and at AGC MA, we work hard to support that obligation,” said John Ferrante, Associated General Contractors of Massachusetts (AGC MA) CEO. “Over the past few years, AGC MA has overseen the expansion of safety to total worker wellness including mental health first aid, suicide prevention, and Narcan administration. The organization recently launched the CARE Construction Safety Orientation, which is a first-of-its-kind safety orientation that is shared among competitors.”

At the ceremony, Siena Construction Company received the Clifford E. Simmons Award, which recognizes the overall best safety record for a contractor with low work hours. AGC MA also announced the winner of its 2025 Superintendent of the Year Award, recognizing and celebrating the role of superintendents in fostering job site and industry safety culture. This year’s nominees were Ryan Varney of Columbia Construction Company and Timothy Bemis of Dimeo Construction Company.

Dan Della-Giustina delivered the keynote address. Della-Giustina, who holds a master's degree in safety and environmental management, is a recently retired safety professional with more than three decades of experience. At Consigli Construction Co., Inc., Della-Giustina served as Safety Director, overseeing the firm’s S.A.F.E. (Staying Accident-Free, Every Day) program. He said he believes "no accident is acceptable, and each accident is preventable."
