With safety at the forefront, Griffin Electric celebrated National Apprenticeship Week at each of its five office locations in Holliston, Massachusetts; Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina; Charlotte, North Carolina; Pelham, Alabama; and Duluth, Georgia. While the company has not been immune to the effects of the COVID-19 health crisis, Griffin Electric remained open and has maintained key business operations throughout the pandemic. With CDC recommended health and safety guidelines in place, the Apprenticeship Training Program has continued.
In appreciation of their contributions to Griffin Electric, the company provided food, T-shirts, and a tool kit to each of its apprentices and instructors during classes throughout the week, while also raffling off a series of prizes.
Since 1993, Griffin’s free in-house Apprenticeship Training Program has prepared hundreds of men and women for careers in the electrical trade. The program is accredited by the National Center for Construction Education and Research and designated as an approved training site by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Throughout the Apprenticeship Training Program school year, classroom and hands-on instruction takes place in the 27,500 square feet of dedicated training space that is part of Griffin Electric’s headquarters in Holliston, Massachusetts, and on-site at each of the company’s regional offices in the Southeast.
In addition to 600 hours of classroom instruction, Griffin’s apprentices benefit from on-the-job learning, where they earn wages and benefits while gaining 8,000 hours of practical field experience under the supervision of a licensed journeyperson. The company has seen apprentices and electricians grow within the company and advance into foreperson, estimating, and project management positions.
