CONCORD, NH — New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) Commissioner William J. “Bill” Cass will retire at the end of February after 40 years of service to the state. Governor Kelly Ayotte congratulated the Commissioner on his career.
“I’m grateful to Commissioner Cass for his many years of dedicated service to New Hampshire,” Ayotte said. “Thanks to his leadership and the hardworking team at NHDOT, we have some of the best roads in the country. We will miss him, but we wish him all the best in his retirement.”
During his tenure, Cass played a key role in advancing some of the state’s most significant transportation projects, including the Interstate 93 expansion and major Portsmouth bridge projects such as the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge and the Memorial Bridge. These efforts improved safety, strengthened regional connections, and supported the long-term reliability of New Hampshire’s transportation system.
“I take great pride in being part of NHDOT and in working alongside some of the most dedicated public servants you will find anywhere,” Cass said. “Our progress on critical infrastructure, safety, and system operations is a direct result of their hard work, integrity, and commitment to the people of New Hampshire.”
The Governor’s Office will begin an immediate search for a replacement Commissioner.
