CORPUS CHRISTI, TX — At the 37th annual American Segmental Bridge Institute (ASBI) Convention, the Texas Department of Transportation's US 181 New Harbor Bridge project was recognized with the 2025 ASBI Bridge Award of Excellence in the Long Span and Cable-Stayed Bridges category.
Spanning the busy Corpus Christi Ship Channel, the bridge’s 1,661-foot center span makes it the longest precast segmental cable-stayed bridge in North America. Its soaring 540-foot towers, 205-foot clearance, and dynamic LED lighting have transformed the harbor into a coastal landmark.
The bridge was designed for a 170-year service life, a testament to the durability, precision, and craftsmanship of its construction. It replaces the 1959 Harbor Bridge, bringing safer travel lanes, wider shoulders, and a shared pedestrian and cycling path that leads to a scenic overlook at the top of the span.
FlatironDragados’ in-house technical teams and onsite professionals ensured each piece of the bridge fit together with accuracy, aligning within inches after thousands of tons of concrete and steel were set in place.
