Nilles will serve as REES’ Regional Healthcare Team Leader for Texas overseeing client development and health care planning. He brings to REES more than 36 years of experience in health care architecture. Nilles comes to REES after serving as Senior Project Manager at HDR Architecture.
“We are excited to have Joe on our team,” said REES CEO Allan Parr. “His knowledge of the health care market in Texas is key to our continued growth.”
While he has been based in Houston for the majority of his career, Nilles' projects have taken him all over the world. He designed a ground-up 5.5-million-square-foot hospital in Saudi Arabia and did master planning for a medical center in Vietnam. His work elsewhere has given him an appreciation for Houston.
“There is nothing like the Texas Medical Center,” Nilles said. “The level of care and level of research done in the Med Center is like no other. Every range and facet of medical care is available there.”
Nilles' portfolio includes a range of design projects including: ground up facilities, master planning, renovations, and expansions. Nilles has designed academic and research hospitals, specialty hospitals, ambulatory care centers, clinics, psychiatric hospitals, and assisted senior living facilities.
“Knowing your design affects and helps people is powerful,” Nilles said. “Health care architecture is about impacting people’s lives.”
Nilles holds a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Environmental Design from Texas A&M University. He is a registered Architect in Texas and regularly speaks on architecture topics.
“It’s an exciting time to be at REES,” Nilles said. “The culture of the firm and its expertise is exciting for me.”
