Water Utilities Wins Texas American Water Works Association Conservation Award
In 2013 Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend experienced a severe drought placing the city in stage two drought restrictions to conserve water. During this time, Water Utilities created a new lawn watering program with water flushed from dead-end mains.
“I am very proud of our Water Utilities team for showing great initiative and implementing the dead-end main watering program. It’s an honor to gain statewide recognition from our peers at the Texas American Water Works Association for our hard work and innovation,” said Kevin Norton, Director of Water Utilities.
All customers that live near a location where dead-end main flushing occurs can participate in the program. Currently, 350 customers are participating in the yard watering program, and over 13 percent of the water flushed from dead-end mains is used to water customer’s yards.
