The $70 million project will build a new bridge at U.S. 60 (as well as entrance and exit ramps) and add safety lighting, according to Neil Welch, PE, TxDOT’s Littlefield Area Engineer.
“We know this project is located on a heavily traveled truck route and adjacent to Cargill’s North American Protein plant, which has a steady flow of traffic around the clock. It is going to affect a lot of motorists including the plant traffic. TxDOT is committed to keep traffic flowing, but U.S. 60 motorists can expect various lane closures, traffic shifts, and detours throughout the duration of the project,” Welch said. “Our goal is to make sure we get the work done in the safest and most efficient way possible.”
Both east- and westbound U.S. 60 traffic, through the construction zone, will be reduced to 60 mph, Welch added.
The project began with project contractor Webber, LLC, of The Woodlands, Texas, setting barricades and beginning work on bridge elements.
