Governor Abbott, Mayor Johnson and Uber CEO Deliver Remarks at The Epic II Office Tower Groundbreaking

DALLAS, TX — Westdale Real Estate Investment and Management broke ground on The Epic II, the second office tower in Westdale’s eight-acre mixed-use project known as The Epic. Slated for a fourth quarter 2022 completion, Uber will occupy the entire 470,000 square feet of office space in the 23-story tower.

Governor Greg Abbott, Mayor Eric Johnson and Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi delivered remarks with Westdale CEO Joe Beard in attendance. The Epic II will serve as a general hub and Dallas headquarters for Uber Technologies, Inc. and will generate 3,000 jobs and more than $75 million in capital investment.

“Through the investments made by companies like Uber, Texas continues to flourish as a hub of innovation, technological advancement and economic prosperity,” Abbott said. “I am proud to welcome Uber to Dallas, and I am grateful for the vital role they are playing in the Texas success story. Together, we will continue to keep our economy the strongest in the nation and ensure a prosperous future for the city of Dallas and the entire state of Texas.”

“The state of Texas has always been an exceptional partner for Uber. As we continue to expand and innovate transportation options all around the world, Texas has been a first-class partner for us,” Khosrowshahi said. “I wanted to be here personally as well to show the appreciation that we have as a company for you welcoming us and for the great work that we have ahead of us in building here on this site [The Epic].”

“The competitive economic package that helped us attract Uber to this site [The Epic] is tied to job creation, and it will create tens of millions of dollars of investment in our city,” Johnson said. “I appreciate the work of Governor Abbott and of all of those who helped make sure that Dallas continues to complete for the businesses that will drive the future of our city and our state. Let’s build together on this relationship and let’s turn this dirt here today with an eye toward the future and all its wonderful possibilities.”
