LINCOLN, NE — The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is currently working on repairs to the flood-damaged roadways and bridges on various emergency projects in northeast Nebraska and the Omaha Metro Area.
Northeast Nebraska
• Highway 12: K Porter Construction, Norfolk, Nebraska, has been awarded the contract for the section of Highway 12 between Standing Bear Bridge and the Santee Spur. Current work includes re-grading the embankment and surfacing the roadway with millings. NDOT will hire a contractor to complete asphalt paving at a future date.
• Highway 14: Garcia Chicoine, Milford, Nebraska, has been awarded the contract for a bridge south of Niobrara. Current work includes patching the bridge to ensure a reliable route into Niobrara. Knife River, from Sioux City, Iowa, has been awarded the contract to provide an asphalt overlay on the bridge deck once repair work has been completed.
• Highway 81:
o M.E. Collins, Wahoo, Nebraska, has been awarded the contract for Highway 81 north of Norfolk. Current work includes replacement of affected pavement, repair guardrail and re-shoulder the highway.
o Knife River, Sioux City, Iowa, has been awarded the contract for Highway 81 near Platte Center. Work includes repairing and repaving of shoulders.
• Highway 81 and Highway 30: Several companies have been awarded contracts to Highway 81 and 30 south of Columbus:
o Dale R Johnson Ent., Inc., Columbus, Nebraska, is providing removal and grading services.
o Gerhing Construction, Columbus, Nebraska, is providing concrete paving and repair.
o IES Commercial Inc., Norfolk, Nebraska, is providing electrical services.
o Knife River will perform asphalt repairs.
Work already completed includes:
• Highway 98: Knife River performed emergency patching east of Pierce to ensure a reliable route for detoured traffic.
• NDOT personnel have repaired earthen shoulders in several areas, filled voids, removed flood debris and repaired a bridge approach near Beemer.
Omaha Metro Area
• Highway 30: Omni Engineering, Omaha, Nebraska, has the existing repair and resurfacing contract for Highway 30 between Fremont and Arlington. This work includes a road segment for full reconstruction. The repair and resurfacing project will continue after the immediate repairs are completed and the highway is open to traffic.
• Highway 77: Thompson Construction, Fremont, Nebraska, has been awarded the contract for Highway 77 north of Fremont between US-275 and Logan Creek. This work includes shoulder reconstruction and mainline paving.
• Highway 91: Goree Excavating, Fremont, Nebraska, has been awarded the contract for Highway 91 between Nickerson and Fontanelle. This work includes a road segment for full reconstruction.
• Highway L28B (West Dodge Road):
o Hawkins Construction, Omaha, Nebraska, has been awarded the contract for the section of West Dodge Road between US-275 and 228th Street. This work includes major reconstruction of the 4-lane roadway to restore immediate connectivity.
• Highway US-275:
o Constructors Inc., Lincoln, Nebraska, has been awarded the contract for the section of highway on West Center Road (Highway 275), between the N-92/US-275 junction and the Elkhorn River. This work includes total bridge and pavement replacement.
Work already completed includes:
• M.E. Collins was awarded a contract to perform shoulder embankment replacement on Highway 36 between Highways US-275 and N-31.
• Kerns Excavating, Plattsmouth, Nebraska, was awarded a contract to haul embankment reconstruction material for state forces along Highway US-34/75 on the south side of the Platte River.
• Constructors Inc. performed shoulder reconstruction on Highway 92 between the Platte River and the US-275/L28E junction as part of their contract noted above.
