CEDAR RAPIDS, IA — Helix Electric doubled its Iowa team's donation to the Freedom Foundation to support Cedar Rapids veterans. Senior Project Manager Dave Uenaka recently presented a check of $5,000 to the veterans organization.
Helix’s Iowa team organized a 50/50 raffle during their holiday party with proceeds benefiting the Freedom Foundation, which helps provide essential support services to veterans, helps veterans transition to civilian life, and helps veterans access resources they need to thrive. Many employees participated in the raffle, but when one of Helix Electric's leaders, Craig Neeley, won the 50/50 raffle, he donated his entire prize back to the veterans organization, prompting Helix to match the entire 50/50 raffle amount raised and resulting in $5,000 being donated on behalf of Helix.
"When our team member won and gave it all back to help local veterans, it showed the character of our people and how we build strong communities together," Uenaka said.
The donation is part of the company’s “40 Years with 40 Philanthropy Events,” a philanthropy initiative celebrating its 40th anniversary. The initiative is led by the company’s employee-led giving group, Helix Helping Hands, supporting communities across markets where the company operates through charitable initiatives.
