Oklahoma DOT Announces Smith and King as Leads for Procurement, Survey Divisions

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK — Two new Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) division leaders were recently announced at a meeting of the Oklahoma Transportation Commission.

Brad Smith was announced as the new Head of the Purchasing Division, and Jeff King as the new Chief of Surveys for the department.

An Oklahoma City native, Smith is a Certified Procurement Officer who began his career with ODOT in 2000 in the Information Technology Division. Prior to this position, Smith spent seven years in the engineering consultant industry.

Smith is a member of the Oklahoma Association of Public Procurement and NIGP, The Institute for Public Procurement.

A native of Alva, King first started working for the department in 1987 as a Survey Field Hand in Muskogee. Most recently, King served as Assistant Chief of Surveys, where he oversaw all field crews in the Survey Division, as well as ODOT’s survey consultants.

In between, King served numerous survey roles, including Photogrammetrist, Professional Land Surveyor in charge of Muskogee and Tulsa crews, and Land Survey Manager for Districts 1 and 8.

King is a Licensed Professional Land Surveyor and has a bachelor’s degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah and also attended Connors State College in Warner. He is a member of the Oklahoma Society of Land Surveyors and National Society of Professional Surveyors.

King was also a member of a team that created 21 Low Distortion Projections for the state of Oklahoma that will become the new State Plane Coordinate Zones for Oklahoma, when the National Geodetic Society releases the new State Plane Coordinate System in 2025.
