Mississippi DOT Makes Progress on Projects in Northeast Mississippi

TUPELO, MS — The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) announces several construction and maintenance projects in northeast Mississippi.

“I'm pleased to see progress on these projects in northeast Mississippi,” District 1 Engineer Matt Dunn said. “This work will enhance mobility, boost safety, and positively impact economic growth and development, meaning better quality of life for Mississippians. Summertime is when our work at MDOT ramps up. I ask that drivers be extra careful while traveling in and around work zones.”

Capacity Project in Union County
A $58.7 million project has been let in Union County to construct 5.35 miles of new parallel lanes of State Route 15 to complete the four-lane connection from Pontotoc to New Albany. The contractor is currently working on dirt operations on the sub-grade of the highway, constructing bridges, and laying pipe. The contract was awarded to Talbot Brothers Contracting of Nesbit. Work is expected to be completed in spring 2027.
U.S. 45 Mill and Overlay in Alcorn County
An $8.4 million mill and overlay project is underway in Alcorn County on 10 miles of U.S. 45 from the Prentiss County line to Harper Road. The contract was awarded to APAC of Jackson. Work is expected to be completed in summer 2024.
U.S. 82 Safety Enhancements in Lowndes County
A $19.8 million safety enhancement and overlay project is underway in Lowndes County on 7 miles of U.S. 82 from U.S. 45 South to 1 mile east of Military Road. This project includes mainline curve reconstruction, ramp lengthening, sign enhancements, and pavement mill and overlay. The first lift is complete on all lanes, and the final Stone Mastic Asphalt lifts are underway. Ramp extensions and the Main Street overpass are complete, and guardrail replacement has begun. The contract was awarded to Falcon Contracting Company, Inc. of Columbus. Work is expected to be completed in fall 2024.
State Route 182 Bridge Replacement Project in Webster County
A bridge replacement project is progressing in Webster County to replace the State Route 182 bridges over White Creek Canal and Little Black Creek. The contractor has completed replacing the bridge over White Creek and is currently constructing the bridge over Little Black Creek. Once the second bridge is complete, guardrail, paving, and striping will begin. This $4.7 million project was awarded to Ste-Bil Grading of Waterford. The bridge replacement is expected to be completed in fall 2024.
Interchange Improvement Project on State Route 25 in Itawamba County
A $6.5 million project is nearly complete on State Route 25 at the I-22 interchange in Itawamba County. This project included signal upgrades and intersection safety enhancements along State Route 25. The project was awarded to Cook & Son of Smithville. Work is expected to be completed in spring 2024.
U.S. 45 in Prentiss County
A $2.9 million mill and overlay project was let on 3 miles of U.S. 45 from Ripley Road to State Highway 30 West in Prentiss County. The contract was awarded to Cook & Son. Work is expected to be completed in early fall 2024.
Safety Project on State Route 12 in Lowndes County
A $7.5 million safety project was let on 12 miles of State Route 12 from State Route 50 to the Alabama state line and various locations on State Route 69. The project includes widening and overlay, sign upgrades, and other safety enhancements. The contract was awarded to Cook & Son. Work is expected to be completed in summer 2025.
Bridge Replacements on State Route 407 in Choctaw County
A bridge replacement project was let to replace the State Route 407 bridges over Yockanookany River and relief in Choctaw County. This $5.2 million project was awarded to Ste-Bil Grading. The bridge replacements are expected to be completed in summer 2025.
