WEST BATON ROUGE PARISH, LA — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is providing a construction update on the LA 1 Intracoastal Bridge replacement project. The contractor is currently focused on placing the bridge deck, with more progress expected over the coming months.
Construction efforts will continue through mid to late fall 2024, concentrating on the new LA 1 southbound bridge. This new structure will feature three 12-foot travel lanes and 10-foot shoulders, greatly improving safety and capacity for drivers.
Roadway work and diversion routes will continue through the end of the year to ensure traffic management throughout the construction phase. A traffic switch to the new southbound bridge is anticipated for late 2024 or early 2025.
The overall completion of the LA 1 Intracoastal Bridge is projected for early 2025. Although the project faced some delays due to potential settlement issues, these concerns have been resolved, allowing work to move forward efficiently. Remaining construction tasks include finalizing the bridge deck and approach roadway, as well as completing the Sun Plus Parkway/Phillips Lane intersection.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development’s mission is to plan, design, build, and sustain a safe and reliable multimodal transportation and infrastructure system that enhances mobility and economic opportunity.
