FAYETTEVILLE, AR — Four Olsson projects have earned Engineering Excellence Awards from the American Council of Engineering Companies of Arkansas (ACEC Arkansas). The awards recognize projects that showcase significant achievement, value, and ingenuity.
“We are grateful to receive this recognition from ACEC Arkansas,” said Brad Hammond, Olsson’s Local Area Leader in Fayetteville, Arkansas. “I’m proud of the teams who helped bring these impactful projects to life, and our employees’ passion to make a difference in the communities where they work, live, and play.”
Project submissions are judged by a panel of industry professionals who evaluate uniqueness, future value to the engineering profession, sustainable considerations, and the successful fulfillment of client needs.
Below are Olsson’s awarded projects along with comments from ACEC Arkansas:
“Olsson partnered with the City of Fayetteville to develop an innovative Climate Action Plan addressing climate change challenges through both energy and nature-based solutions. … Olsson’s approach emphasized that conservation and natural infrastructure can work in tandem with traditional engineering solutions to elevate sustainability.

“A key component of Olsson’s strategy was to assess ecosystem resilience by analyzing ecosystem services, carbon storage, and climate equity. This involved using Geographic Information System datasets … to create a climate resilience GIS. This tool is now available on the city’s website to help guide planners and city leaders in evaluating public lands and ecosystems.”
“The new parking deck was a cornerstone project in the development of a Cultural Arts Corridor, known as The Ramble, in Fayetteville’s downtown entertainment district.
“Olsson created a flexible multi-use design that features a six-story structure, with an option for a future seventh floor, expanded parking from 290 to 335 spaces. The design incorporated retail and commercial spaces, a public art wall, as well as a police substation on the first floor.”
“Olsson’s landscape architecture and planning design team created a master plan for the park [in Rogers, Arkansas]. Traffic flow and access to the park were improved through the design and construction of Garrett Road and a new roundabout, including a separated bike/pedestrian trail.

“Mount Hebron Park has two regulation-size soccer fields. … Pickleball is well represented with eight well-lit courts. The park features the largest accessible playground in Arkansas.”
“Restriping of the existing lot was done to increase the flow of traffic within the parking lot. The reconfiguration of the existing lot leads to greater pedestrian and vehicular traffic safety.
“New lighting and landscaping provide a greater user experience and sense of security on the lot. Native plantings were utilized to ensure reduced need for irrigation water use and lower maintenance costs for the facility.”
