NEW ORLEANS, LA — Denis Hoerner, PE, joins HNTB as a Senior Project Manager. With more than 20 years of experience in structural engineering, flood risk management, and large-scale infrastructure delivery, Hoerner will support HNTB’s growing portfolio of complex civil works and resilience projects. His expertise spans risk-informed design, design-build execution, and navigation infrastructure, with a proven record of technical innovation, stakeholder collaboration, and emergency response leadership.

Prior to joining HNTB, Hoerner served in multiple leadership and technical roles with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), including as Structural Subject Matter Expert for the Inland Navigation Design Center and Regional Technical Specialist for the Mississippi Valley Division. His work has spanned the design, construction, and risk assessment of major infrastructure systems, including the Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System and Permanent Canal Closures and Pumps projects in New Orleans, Louisiana; the Ala Wai Flood Risk Management System in Honolulu, Hawaii; and numerous dam and levee safety evaluations.

“Denis brings a comprehensive understanding of the technical, regulatory, and community aspects of flood protection and infrastructure resilience,” said Dusty Bastion, PE, HNTB’s Gulf Coast Office Leader and Vice President. “His leadership and depth of expertise will be instrumental as we continue delivering innovative, forward-thinking solutions that protect and connect the communities we serve.”

Hoerner is a licensed Professional Engineer in Louisiana and holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of New Orleans. He is a recipient of the USACE Superior Civilian Service Award and the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service.
