Skanska Completes William & Mary’s Newest Integrated Science Center Facility

WILLIAMSBURG, VA — Skanska has completed William & Mary's fourth and final building of the Integrated Science Center (ISC). The 124,000-square-foot facility — called Integrated Science Center IV (ISC4) — is the newest home for the School of Computing, Data Sciences & Physics, and allows the university to expand its ability to prepare students for a data-rich world.

“The completion of ISC4 marks an exciting milestone for William & Mary and for everyone who contributed to this project,” said Mark Balling, Executive Vice President responsible for Skanska’s Mid-Atlantic building operations. “We’re proud to have played a role in bringing this vision to life and look forward to seeing the incredible impact it will have on students, faculty, and the broader Williamsburg community.”

Designed by Goody Clancy and Baskervill, ISC4 features laboratories and teaching spaces tailored for instruction, innovation, and research. A ground-floor makerspace, equipped with digital tools and fabrication equipment, offers students and faculty a collaborative setting for hands-on experimentation. This makerspace opens onto a "maker patio" that extends into the courtyard. "The Hub” connects all floors and provides additional areas for collaboration, social events, and presentations.

“The delivery of the ISC Phase 4 facility, home to the university's new School of Computing, Data Sciences & Physics, is a seminal moment in William & Mary's campus development,” William & Mary Chief Business Officer Sean Hughes said. “The new building offers an abundance of innovative learning environments, laboratories, and workspaces and is sure to be a new favorite location of many students, faculty, and staff.”

By bringing these diverse STEM disciplines together under one roof, the center fosters cross-disciplinary innovation and provides undergraduate students with opportunities to engage in hands-on, collaborative research alongside nationally recognized faculty.
