RALEIGH, NC — Skanska, a global construction and development firm, announces Mark Balling has been promoted to Executive Vice President and General Manager overseeing its building operations in North Carolina/Virginia. He succeeds Greg Peele, who was recently promoted to Regional Executive Officer for the Southeast and Central regions.

“For the past eight years, Mark has been an instrumental force in growing and developing our teams and business in North Carolina and Virginia,” Peele said. “Whether working on a large university campus building or a community impacting hospital project, Mark has shown a remarkable ability to translate a client’s vision into reality.”

Balling joined Skanska in 2015 as Vice President, Account Manager and three years later, was promoted to Senior Vice President, Account Manager, responsible for all work in Virginia across multiple market sectors, as well as Skanska’s projects with Duke University and North Carolina State University. Before joining Skanska, Balling spent more than two decades with Lendlease, culminating as Senior Vice President and Principal-in Charge with oversight of the company’s upstate New York operations.

“Our North Carolina and Virginia teams are filled with dedicated men and women committed to providing the highest quality of construction and services to our markets,” Balling said. “It is my honor to continue our team’s journey of building legacy projects that help shape the communities where we work and live for years to come.”

Current projects underway in the North Carolina/Virginia region include: UNC Hospitals’ 335,000-square-foot Surgical Tower; the renovation and expansion of the University of Virginia’s historic Alderman Library; the 287,850-square-foot Central Forensics Lab for the Commonwealth of Virginia; North Carolina State’s 145,000-square-foot Integrated Sciences Building; Virginia Tech’s 102,000-square-foot undergraduate Science Laboratory Building; and the geothermal central energy plant for Wake Technical Community College’s Eastern Wake 4.0 campus.
