W.M. Jordan Company Recognized at 2019 ABC-VA Excellence in Construction Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, VA — The Associated Builders and Contractors, Inc. Virginia Chapter (ABC-VA) recognized W.M. Jordan Company at its 2019 Excellence in Construction Awards. Each year, the Excellence in Construction Awards recognizes and celebrates leading projects from ABC-VA members. These awards highlight quality workmanship on projects and overall excellence in build and design.

W.M. Jordan Company’s Virginia Commonwealth University Gladding Residence Center received two awards, taking home ABC-VA’s best in show award, Overall Excellence in Construction, while also winning the Honor Award of Excellence: Educational – Public & Private Schools.

The 12-story, 371,000-square-foot residence hall is the largest student dormitory in Virginia. It houses over 1,500 students in 784 units and includes amenities such as a fitness center, mail room, workspace for students and faculty and a large conference center. The building is subdivided into six neighborhoods of approximately 125 to 200 students. These neighborhoods provide shared kitchens, laundry facilities, study areas and lounges that promote community development and student interaction.

W.M. Jordan was also recognized with the Award of Excellence: Educational – Public & Private Schools and the Allegiance Award: Educational – Public & Private Schools for its work on Christopher Newport University’s (CNU) Trible Library Expansion. The Allegiance Award recognizes the project that utilized the most ABC-VA trade partners during construction.

CNU’s Trible Library phase two expansion included over 66,000 square feet of new space, including 800 new seats, additional reading and private study rooms, a media center, 100-seat lecture hall, additional stack space and several new classrooms. Prior to the phase two expansion, W.M. Jordan Company completed an expansion and renovation of the original John Smith Library in 2008, which was then renamed the Trible Library.

W.M. Jordan Project Administrator Jerri Michael was also honored with ABC-VA’s Project Administrator of the Year award.
