COLUMBIA, SC — The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) received $195 million in federal grant money from the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) to fund the Long Point Road Interchange Project. This is the largest single grant award in the agency's history and in this year alone, SCDOT has secured $372 million in federal grant dollars to advance critical infrastructure projects in South Carolina.

This project will improve operations of the I-526 and Long Point Road interchange, with dedicated flyover ramps for port-related traffic to improve operations and local traffic. In addition to significant traffic and operational improvements, the project will provide community enhancements including a multi-use path and noise walls.

"The Long Point Road Interchange Project is an investment in both our economy and the quality of life of our people that will reduce congestion, improve safety, and enhance access to the port," Governor Henry McMaster said. "Thanks to the support of our congressional delegation, South Carolina continues to secure transformative investments in our infrastructure, ensuring our economy remains strong and competitive for years to come."

"South Carolina is now the fastest growing state in the nation, and the port is on track for further expansion that will bring huge rewards for our economy. SCDOT is working hard to make sure our road and bridge network is ready, now and for years to come."

The total project cost is $325 million. $195 million from the grant award from USDOT, $65 million from federal dollars already apportioned to South Carolina, and $65 million in state funds will fully fund the project. The design phase of the project is well underway, and construction is anticipated to begin in early 2026.
