“These awards recognize our success in meeting the transportation needs of Marylanders and connecting them to life’s opportunities,” Rahn said.
The awards are for MDOT’s multimillion-dollar transit projects, safety and security measures, highway construction programs and advertising campaigns. The honors showcase the state’s commitment to safety, sustainability, infrastructure, customer service and economic prosperity.
For example: The MDOT State Highway Administration’s (MDOT SHA) $65.4-million project replacing the Dover Bridge, an antiquated swing bridge, with a modern fixed span bridge is among the 12 finalists in the America’s Transportation Awards competition. The project was already honored in the contest with a Quality of Life/Community Development award earlier this summer.
In addition, the Severn River Bridge won an America’s Transportation Operations Excellence award. America’s Transportation Awards are sponsored by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), AAA and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
