Deaton, who serves as Director of Operations and Project Director for HNTB’s architecture practice, has built a 30-year career in the architecture and construction industries. Over the past three decades, he has played an integral role in a variety of public and private projects using traditional delivery and alternative delivery methods.
This includes serving as Project Director for the National Security Campus in Kansas City, Missouri. The project for the United States Department of Energy and National Nuclear Security Administration was one of the largest developer-led design-build projects in the Midwest.
In addition to his professional duties, Deaton also has been involved in growing the design-build industry, including serving as a certified DBIA Instructor since 2011. For the past 15 years, he has served in various capacities on committees and leadership positions for the Mid-America Region of the Design-Build Institute of America, including a stint as Chapter President. In 2016, his involvement helped a bill in the Missouri House of Representatives, permitting design-build construction, to become state law.
“Being named a DBIA fellow is reserved for the most accomplished and knowledgeable of those in the profession, and Mark certainly is worthy of that distinction,” said Julie Wienberg, AIA, HNTB Architecture National Practice Leader.
