LINCOLN, NE — The community of Seward, Nebraska, in collaboration with Constructors, Inc., recently celebrated the opening of the newly reconstructed and resurfaced N-15 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) project, which began in April 2024, encompassed significant improvements to a 1.1-mile stretch of highway, enhancing safety, accessibility, and travel experience for the public.
Key features of the project included new concrete pavement and asphalt resurfacing, widening the roadway to accommodate a two-way left turn lane and incorporating storm sewers and lighting. Additionally, the project updated sidewalks to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards, featuring integral curbs and curb inlets to ensure accessibility for all travelers.
“The success of this project highlights the strong partnership between NDOT, Constructors, Inc., and the Seward community,” said Vicki Kramer, NDOT Director. “The community’s support and collaboration were instrumental in completing this project quickly and effectively. This stretch of highway now stands as a testament to what can be achieved when we work together.”
Beyond the construction itself, NDOT and Constructors Inc. worked closely with businesses, residents, local organizations, and the City of Seward. On July 3 at the Seward Library along Highway 15, NDOT, Constructors, Inc., and Gerhold Concrete invited local children to explore trucks, leave handprints in concrete, and enjoy snow cones.
Additionally, the Holiday Parade of Lights in Seward on November 30 had a sub-theme of "Snow More Construction." NDOT’s Brian Schoen, Project Manager for the N-15 project in Seward, was named Festival Foreman to honor the work on the project. Along with Schoen’s recognition, the NDOT District 1 team entered a snowplow with holiday lights in the parade.
