“This is a highly anticipated project,” said Kim Pemberton, Project Manager with the Kansas City Public Works Department. “Residents have been waiting a long time for this improvement, and we are excited to see it become a reality for our residents.”
Construction is split into three phases with phase one starting this fall, phase two including most of 2020 and phase three picking up the last part of 2020 through the fall of 2021.
Funding for the project is provided by the Shoal Creek TIF and District 1 Public Improvements Advisory Committee funds.
Improvements include:
- street widening to a four-lane road with a center median
- flattening hills and valleys
- addition of curbs and gutters, new sidewalks, bike lanes
- a new enclosed storm sewer system
- water line replacement
- new street lighting
- street trees
- pedestrian rest areas
