OMAHA, NE — The Nebraska/Dakotas Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA Nebraska/Dakotas Chapter) has honored RDG Planning & Design with a 2022 ASLA Chapter Award. This annual awards program honors individuals and organizations who demonstrate superior skill in the practice or study of landscape architecture and whose contributions have positively impacted the communities they serve.

The winning project is the Nebraska Medicine - Durham Outpatient Center Rooftop Plaza, which won an Award of Excellence in the Design Built category.

“We’re proud to share this recognition with our partners and communities, and we’re thankful for their continued trust in RDG to elevate and make a difference in their quality of life,” said RDG Partner and Landscape Architect Bruce Niedermyer, PLA, ASLA, LEED AP.

RDG’s design for the Nebraska Medicine - Durham Outpatient Center Rooftop Plaza establishes an intensive green roof, creating opportunities for a biodiverse demonstration of prairie environments. The rooftop plaza provides a space where staff, patients, and visitors can interact with the outdoor environment and engages viewers in an artful plaza space.

Additional design benefits include reduced overall stormwater runoff and noise, improved stormwater and air quality, and urban heat island mitigation. The highest honor possible, its recognition with an ASLA Nebraska/Dakotas Chapter Award of Excellence establishes the project as a standard of excellence.
