RIVERSIDE, CA — Skanska, a global construction and development firm, announces the substantial completion of the Gilman Springs Road Phase Six Safety Project in Eastern Moreno Valley, California. The $20.3 million project was awarded to Skanska by the County of Riverside Transportation Department.
The six month project between State Route 60 and State Route 79 involved 4 miles of center median and shoulder widening, the creation of a 1-mile northbound passing lane, improvements to the storm drains, installation of wildlife fence, a wildlife animal crossing, and the installation of 6 miles of raised center median with reflective channelizers to provide a physical division between the two traffic lanes.
Construction on the project began in August of 2024, and Skanska reached substantial completion two months ahead of schedule. The roadway is now fully open to the public.
“The completion of the Gilman Springs Road Safety Project will address driver safety and improve road conditions in the region,” said Bill Hearn, Project Manager, Skanska USA Civil West. “Understanding the risks during construction, Skanska submitted a Value Engineering proposal to reduce the safety hazards between motorists and the construction team. The proposal was approved by the Riverside County Transportation Department, both reducing construction costs and prioritizing the safety and well-being of our workers.”
