LOS ANGELES, CA — Balfour Beatty, as part of LINXS Constructors, the joint venture team responsible for constructing the Automated People Mover (APM) for LAX Integrated Express Solutions, successfully completes the train guideway superstructure over Century Boulevard during the delivery of Los Angeles International Airport’s (LAX) APM project. With 87 percent of the 2.25-mile elevated guideway complete, the LAX skyline continues to transform and further progress the modernization of one of the busiest airports in the world.

The delivery of the segment marks the end of a four-month operation that connects the APM guideway over Century Boulevard. The project team leveraged a cast-in-place segmental construction technique in conjunction with a traveling form system to place formwork and build 13 segments that are each approximately 15 feet in length. The cast-in-place segmental construction method is currently being used to construct a 250-foot-long section of spanning Parking Structure 2B inside the Central Terminal Area (CTA) and over Sepulveda Boulevard.

The centerpiece of LAX's Landside Access Modernization Program (LAMP), the APM electric train system will transport travelers into and out of the CTA connecting them to new off-site parking facilities, regional light rail transportation, and the Consolidated Rent-A-Car (ConRAC) facility. The APM project is a critical investment into the infrastructure of Los Angeles as the city prepares to host the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The APM will feature six stations: three stations inside the CTA that will connect to the terminals via elevated pedestrian walkways, and three stations outside the CTA that will connect to LAX's new Economy Parking, regional light rail transportation, and the ConRAC facility. The APM is expected to relieve congestion within the CTA and in turn the surrounding thoroughfares, thereby reducing emissions and vehicle miles traveled.
