INDIANAPOLIS, IN — The Indianapolis City-County Council’s Public Works Committee voted unanimously to approve Mayor Joe Hogsett’s five-year, $1.2 billion capital infrastructure plan. Indy Department of Public Works' (Indy DPW) 2024 budget was also approved by the full City-County Council.

Next year will be the second year of Hogsett’s five-year, $1.2 billion capital plan, which calls for $363 million in Indy DPW projects for 2024 — nearly three times the first budget passed under the Hogsett administration in 2017.

“We’re tremendously thankful for Mayor Hogsett’s leadership in getting this budget built without an increase on the city’s taxpayers, as well as his confidence in this department to deliver transformational change for the residents of Indianapolis,” said Indy DPW Director Brandon Herget. “Along with his work at the Statehouse on Senate Bill 283 to ensure Indy has budgeted funding for the repair of residential roads for the first time in a generation, we’re seeing greater investment in this city’s infrastructure than ever before — investment that you can see every day.”

“I’m pleased to see the work Indy DPW has been doing to increase pedestrian safety through the use of the capital budget,” said City-County Council Vice President Zach Adamson, who chairs the Public Works Committee. “New trails, updated ADA ramps, protected bike lanes, and two-way conversions for traffic calming will go a long way to helping make transportation in this city safer for all.”

Indy DPW’s budget for 2024 will include $284 million for transportation-focused projects and $79 million for stormwater-focused projects.

Hogsett’s five-year capital plan includes:

• $534 million for street construction
• $159 million for bridge projects
• $86 million for trails, greenways, and paths
• $31 million for sidewalks
• $220 million for stormwater projects
