LIMA, OH — The Institute for Orthopaedic Surgery (IOS) has completed a significant expansion and renovation project to its Lima, Ohio, facility. The $28 million initiative, which was completed in two phases, has transformed the facility into an environment for enhanced patient experience and quality of care.
Fort Wayne, Indiana-based architecture firm, Design Collaborative, partnered with Lima’s Tuttle Construction to ensure that IOS could continue caring for its patients without any service interruptions throughout all stages of construction.
"Our mission was to create a space that supports both the tangible and intangible aspects of patient care. From privacy and cleanliness to acoustics and safety, every detail has been considered to enhance the overall experience," said Megan Yoder, Project Manager at Design Collaborative. “Our aim was not just to enhance aesthetics, but also to ensure the facility meets the functional needs of patients and health care professionals alike.”
With an over 25-year history, IOS expanded its facility by 50,000 square feet and renovated an additional 22,000 square feet. IOS now houses a new perioperative suite designed for optimal patient flow and comfort. The operating rooms are better equipped for new surgical technology, including robotic surgery. Moreover, new overnight care rooms have been introduced for better privacy and comfort.
IOS now offers an urgent care clinic, equipped with x-ray capabilities, to address urgent orthopaedic conditions efficiently. New lab and pharmacy suites have also been integrated to provide holistic patient care. With the project complete, visitors are now welcomed with a modernized exterior facade and hospital entrance.
