Applicants were judged on several key areas: their overall program to promote construction safety, three years of OSHA injury and illness reports and three years of EMR ratings. Professional safety consultants performed jobsite inspections, and their reports made part of the final judging process, which was performed by an independent panel comprised of three risk management professionals.
The Safety Excellence Awards are given to the top scoring contractor in each class. The Safety Recognition Awards are given to companies who scored well but did not have the highest in their respective classes. The Supervisor Safety Awards are for individuals nominated by their employers to be honored for their commitment to promoting company safety policies and serving as role models in safety attitude and performance for the workers they supervise.
