LOUISVILLE, KY — AEI, an STV company and full-service civil engineering firm, celebrates the substantial completion of I-Move Kentucky, a four-year, $180 million design-build project led by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC). The project included upgrades to I-265, I-71, and I-64 in Jefferson and Oldham Counties, delivering safety, mobility, and quality-of-life improvements across Kentucky’s busiest highway corridors.
As part of a HALL Contracting design-build team, AEI served as the design lead for I-Move Kentucky, delivering comprehensive services in roadway, utilities and structures design, surveying, and geotechnical engineering. The scope featured four projects in Jefferson and Oldham Counties identified as statewide priorities through KYTC's Strategic Highway Investment Formula for Tomorrow initiative:
- The I-265 widening added one 12-foot lane of traffic in each direction to create a total of six lanes between KY 155 (Taylorsville Road) and I-71.
- I-71/I-265 interchange improvements created a collector-distributor lane on southbound I-71, improving safety and ramp movements to and from I-265.
- The I-71 widening added one 12-foot lane of traffic in each direction to create a total of six lanes between I-265 and KY 329 (Crestwood/Pewee Valley exit).
- The I-64/I-265 interchange was reconfigured as Kentucky’s first partial turbine interchange, eliminating high-volume loop ramps and easing weaving traffic.
“This project is a game-changer for Kentucky’s busiest corridors, delivering significant relief from traffic congestion while improving safety and connectivity,” said Peter Overmohle, PE, PTOE, PMP, Vice President and Kentucky and Ohio Area Manager at AEI.
The overall project featured more than 28 miles of roadway reconstruction and widening, five new bridges, eight bridge widenings, 5.7 miles of noise barrier walls, and nine reinforced concrete box culvert extensions.
