Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute Announces 2024 PCI Design Awards Winners

CHICAGO, IL — The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) announces the winners of the 2024 PCI Design Awards. There are 19 winners in the specials, buildings, and transportation categories and 15 honorable mentions.

In the Construction Digest area, International Concrete Products won a PCI Design Award in the buildings (health care/medical center) category for the UI Health Specialty Care Building in Chicago, Illinois. Mile Long Bridge in Chicago received an honorable mention.

For 61 years, the PCI Design Awards program has showcased and recognized creative and innovative uses of precast concrete. Panels of engineers, architects, and precast concrete producers judge all submittals. The buildings and transportation categories are judged on aesthetic, structural, and use versatility; site, energy and operational efficiency, and risk reduction; and resiliency, such as structure durability, multi hazard protection, and life safety and health.

Several projects are also honored with special awards. These are judged on similar criteria to the building and transportation projects, as well as additional requirements, including industry advancement, sustainable design, technology, and designs using all-precast concrete solutions. These are the Harry H. Edwards Industry Advancement Award, the Building Information Modeling Award, the Sustainable Design Award, and the All-Precast Concrete Solution Award.

“This year again proved how exceptional precast concrete projects are, what the precast concrete industry has achieved, and how it will continue to advance and enhance the built environment,” PCI President and CEO Bob Risser, PE said. “The judges this year were incredibly impressed by the quality of each submission and the amount of care that went into creating a story for each project. Judges had a difficult time determining the winners. Congratulations to all the project teams that showcase what our members are capable of producing.”
