Dewberry’s Bier and Alboum Named Civil Engineer and Young Civil Engineer of the Year by ASCE North Jersey Branch

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Dewberry, a privately held professional services firm, announces that the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) North Jersey Branch has named Edward Bier, PE, Civil Engineer of the Year and Matthew Alboum, PE, Young Civil Engineer of the Year.

Bier is a Senior Project Engineer with more than 35 years of experience. His background includes experience in the design, inspection, rating, modification, and rehabilitation of highway and railroad bridges and other transportation-related structures. He has performed and been responsible for structural analysis and design of steel and cast-in-place concrete highway and rail bridges and is well-versed in the use of prefabricated superstructure units.

Bier earned a master’s degree in structural engineering from Manhattan College and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Bier is a member of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association and ASCE. He also volunteers his time to mentor middle school students involved in Future City’s annual competition.

Alboum is an Associate and Assistant Department Manager in the bridge structures group with more than 12 years of experience. His background includes working on multi-span bridges, curved girder bridges, and cofferdams, as well as complex interstate/highway interchange projects for the New Jersey Department of Transportation and New Jersey Turnpike Authority.

Alboum earned a master’s degree in engineering management from Clarkson University, an additional master’s degree in civil engineering from Rutgers, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He is a member of the American Council of Engineering Companies and ASCE. Alboum is also on the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) planning committee and volunteers his time to the NSPE’s annual Engineering Career Day.
