PADEP will receive $244 million annually from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law over the next 15 years to address Pennsylvania’s abandoned mine lands, of which a portion will be used to engage companies such as Atlas to provide environmental services in support of the program. Under Atlas’ five-year contract with PADEP, Atlas will have the opportunity to be selected by PADEP to provide feasibility studies, geophysical investigations, professional design services, and other technical services as required for the reclamation of AML and associated mine-water impacts.
“Atlas has a strong track record of providing environmental services in Pennsylvania, and we are excited to now support the important AML reclamation program,” said Atlas CEO, L. Joe Boyer. “AML reclamation projects allow land to be repurposed for a variety of uses including parks, solar fields, farmland, or commercial use, improving the natural and built resources in communities around the abandoned mines. This project is a great example of how Atlas’ services directly support our client’s environmental and safety goals.”
