SAINT PAUL, MN — The
International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) announces the winners of its 2019 Project Awards. The Ile-aux-Tourtes Bridge Rehabilitation was chosen as the ICRI 2019 Project of the Year. This year, three finalists were chosen, and the winner was announced at an awards ceremony.
ICRI awarded seven additional 2019 Awards of Excellence and seven Awards of Merit. The following projects won awards in the
Construction area:
Longevity Category: Sound of the Sea II
This Emerald Isle, North Carolina-based project was submitted by
SKA Consulting Engineers, Inc. Sound of the Sea II Condominiums were constructed in 1984, and consist of a six-level reinforced concrete building with 36 individually owned units. A repair and cathodic protection project was undertaken to address corrosion-related distress and deterioration of corridors, balconies, roof parapets and other components. Structural concrete repairs included replacement of balcony slab edges and repairs at slabs, columns and walls.
Parking Structures Category: Poff Federal Building
This Roanoke, Virginia-based project was submitted by
Concrete Protection & Restoration, Inc. The Poff Federal Building is a 14-story high-rise building that houses 400 to 500 government employees and offices. Weathering over the last 40 years had caused visual spalling and deterioration of the concrete of the parking garage. During the parking garage repairs, the concrete slab surface was removed using hydrodemolition, exposed rebar was cleaned, corroded rebar was replaced and an additional mat of rebar and concrete overlay was installed. In addition, a full beam replacement was completed and six columns were replaced.
