LOS ANGELES, CA — Skanska announces that it has been awarded the $102 million contract for the Port of Los Angeles Avalon Pedestrian Bridge and Promenade Gateway project in Los Angeles, California, by the Port of Los Angeles. The project is community-focused and will enhance accessibility, safety, and public use of the promenade gateway while supporting the Port of Los Angeles’ broader waterfront revitalization efforts.
“This project reflects our commitment to delivering infrastructure that strengthens communities,” said James Bailey, Executive Vice President of Skanska USA Civil’s West Coast operations. “By creating a safe, grade-separated connection over an active rail corridor, we’re giving the community easy access [to] the Wilmington Waterfront Promenade and the public spaces that continue to transform this area."
The project will transform 12 acres of former industrial land into open space that features a landscaped entry plaza, historic walk and overlook, an open terrace seating area, pedestrian pathways, community gathering areas, two parking lots, one restroom, and a 40-foot-tall architectural sundial. The pedestrian bridge is planned as a signature concrete cable-stayed arch bridge and will offer a safe crossing point over working rail operations. This project will directly connect to the recently completed Wilmington Waterfront Promenade.
The project is expected to be completed in August 2028.
