ORANGE COUNTY, CA — More than a year into construction, FlatironDragados’ progress on the Taxiway A Reconstruction project at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California, includes:
- Achieved 40 percent completion
- Placed 18,000 tons of asphalt pavement
- Installed 1,400 feet of storm drainage
- Activated temporary vehicle service road, secured identification display area gate
- Completed runway rehabilitation work
- Completed Phase 2 and opened Bypass Taxiway A
To minimize impacts on travelers, most construction activities take place overnight during planned runway and taxiway closures. Through close collaboration with Orange County and project partners, the team has maintained a strong safety record and remains ahead of schedule.
The three-year, $102 million project is modernizing critical airfield infrastructure at one of the nation's busiest single-runway commercial airports. The work includes reconstruction and realignment of Taxiway A, rebuilding Connector Taxiways D and E, service road, and adjacent run-up area. Crews are also upgrading pavement markings, lighting, signage, and storm drainage systems. Select pavement sections are being upgraded to Portland cement concrete to enhance durability.
Delivered through a construction manager at risk approach, the project benefits from early collaboration among FlatironDragados, Orange County, and designer AECOM to support efficient planning and execution.
