Herzog Joint Venture Awarded Southeast Gateway Line Advanced Works Project

LOS ANGELES, CA — The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) recently awarded the Southeast Gateway Line Project Advanced Works contract to the joint venture of Herzog and FlatironDragados.

This $997M project is an early enabling project for future construction of the Southeast Gateway Line, a future light rail double track system in downtown Los Angeles, California, and southern Los Angeles County.

Existing freight tracks and utilities will be relocated along the 14.5-mile-long right of way, and 8.7 miles of freight track will be relocated in a shared-use corridor. Freight relocation includes track from Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) and the Port of Los Angeles/Port of Long Beach. The freight relocation process includes constructing 52,000 feet of new mainline track, 26 new at-grade crossings, and temporary track shooflies to maintain railroad operations during construction. Adjustments will be made to 571 impacted utilities along the project corridor, including water, sewer, and storm drain adjustments.

A new Firestone Metro Station — an elevated light rail station — vehicle access structure will be constructed below the UPRR freight rail. A new pedestrian overhead bridge will be constructed near Paramount High School to allow passage over UPRR track.

Additional project scope includes 12,000 linear feet of retaining walls and sound walls, site clearance and demolition, and hazardous soil abatement work.
