WINDSOR, CA — Alongside its client and partners, STV is celebrating the recent recognition the Sonoma Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) Windsor Station project received from the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) San Francisco Section.
The Windsor extension, which officially opened to passenger service in July 2025, was named the 2025 Outstanding Transportation Project by ASCE San Francisco. This program honors advances and innovations in transportation design and construction. The award was formally presented at the ASCE San Francisco Section Awards Dinner.
The 3.2-mile Windsor extension expands service north from the Sonoma County Airport station into downtown Windsor, California. The program includes a new multimodal station, five rebuilt rail bridges, two pedestrian bridges, a pedestrian underpass, and enhanced safety features at five upgraded grade crossings. It also adds a 2.6-mile non-motorized pathway that links Windsor residents with the larger SMART active transportation network.
STV provided multidisciplinary design services, including rail, civil, and structural engineering; station architecture; bridge and roadway design; drainage and site systems; and integration of ADA-compliant access and modern safety infrastructure. This holistic approach allowed the Windsor extension to be delivered efficiently while aligning with SMART’s goals of sustainability, connectivity, and community integration.
