HONOLULU, HI — Nordic PCL Construction Inc. announces that it has entered the presconstruction phase for the Queens Medical Center West Oahu emergency department expansion.
The current emergency department is approximately 13,000 square feet and is the second highest utilized emergency services in Hawaii with the growth in West Oahu. This urgently needed expansion will provide an additional 77,888 square feet of emergency and hospitalized patient care space and will be the largest project for the Queen’s Health Systems in over three decades.
The expansion will be built in several phases, and will include the construction of a new 77,800-square-foot three-story building wing that will feature:
- A 28,500-square-foot emergency department expansion
- Two 24-bed patient care units, each measuring 24,500 square feet
- A 14,000-square-foot central utility plant expansion
The existing emergency department, hospital, and other facilities will remain fully operational during construction. Nordic PCL’s health care experience and history of successfully working on projects for the Queen’s Health Systems were key considerations in the selection process.
