Chandran has a history of involvement with ASCE and has served on multiple committees, including: Soil Properties and Modeling committee; Earthquake Engineering committee; and Unsaturated Soils committee. He was Founding Member and Chair of the Geo-legislative committee. For several years, he served on the Technical Coordination Council, which provided oversight to the Technical committee. Chandran also co-chaired the first-ever joint Geo-Structures Conference held in Phoenix in 2016.

Chandran is a licensed Professional Engineer and a registered Geotechnical Engineer in California. He earned his Master of Science and Ph.D. in geotechnical engineering from the University of California, Davis.
