LA Metro Turns to Gannett Fleming to Lead Major Rail Line as Part of Twenty-Eight by ’28 Project
These are goals of the East San Fernando Valley (ESFV) Transit Corridor Project, which Metro recently awarded to Gannett Fleming. The 9.2-mile transit route will connect the Metro Orange Line in Van Nuys to the Sylmar/San Fernando Metrolink Station. Construction on the $1.3-billion project will begin in 2022.
As the prime consultant, Gannett Fleming will provide Metro with professional engineering services for this new light rail line, which involves 14 at-grade stations with an end-to-end travel time of 31 minutes and intermodal connections. The ESFV Transit Corridor Project scope consists of engineering and design development, procurement support and construction support services.
Gannett Fleming has been instrumental in the implementation of light rail projects in Los Angeles County over the past 40 years. The ESFV project win comes on the heels of several other recent transit and rail successes in Los Angeles, such as the Southwestern Yard Maintenance Facility completion and the award for Engineering Support for System-wide Rail Maintenance.
The Twenty-Eight by ‘28 initiative highlights 28 Metro projects for potential completion by the 2028 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Metro Board approved a list of projects, which includes projects already slated for completion by 2028, as well as projects with later delivery dates with potential for acceleration.
