SAN JOSE, CA — Turner Construction Company announces that the upgrades and nursing addition project at Evergreen Valley College Sequoia was recognized with an Outstanding Safety Performance award. This award from SEWUP highlights the project’s safety practices from 2022 to 2025, during which 84,639 hours were completed with zero recordable injuries.
The building replicates a sterile corridor in an intensive care unit in a hospital or clinic and includes simulation lab spaces and flexible classrooms. The facility will support training and preparation of students for immediate entrance into the patient care workforce, supporting the growth of the college's Nursing Program.
This award recognizes Turner for promoting an injury-free environment and providing the safest workplace possible for all employees, trade partners, and project stakeholders. Turner’s safety-first approach, Building L.I.F.E. (Living Injury Free Every day), focuses on eliminating work site incidents and mitigating hazards through pre-planning, shared standards, rigorous training, and the empowerment of every worker to prioritize safety.
“Kudos to the entire team for the successful and safe execution of the project. Their commitment to actively caring for the well-being of every worker is truly commendable," said Rama Ekkad, Turner's Vice President & Operations Manager. "By prioritizing safety and engagement, they set a high standard for teamwork, responsibility, and care.”
“Our team provided and encouraged wellness checks and exemplified exceptional leadership and personal connection," said Dave Steffens, Vice President & General Manager at Turner. "This is what we all strive for, and you did exceptionally well.”
